A: yes you can sell it,and make sure you sign and return emissions document stateing you have sold the car if not illinois will suspend you drivers licenses and plates

A: So long as you never drive it, NO.
If you do ever need to drive it, even if briefly, I would see about getting a temporary registration.

A: As long as you didn’t sign a repair order you do not have to pay for repairs! They may have you pay for the estimate. Best thing to do is call the Better Business Bureau.

A: I would go on Craigslist and check out the local listings. Also, check the bartering section and also place the car for sale.

I’m behind on my car payments and the finance company is trying to reposses my car, if they take it before I pay it off, will my car stay in Illinois where I live or go to Michigan where the finance company is? A: I think you meant ’serious answers’, but anyways….

Only your finance company knows where the car is going to end up. Even though they are in Michigan, they probably have a partnership with an Illinois based tow company and/or storage facility.

How long you have to come up with the money depends on the terms of your agreement, so I suggest you read the paperwork you signed when you bought the car.

In order to get the car back, you will need to pay the balance of what you owe, plus any towing and storage fees if the finance company agrees to give you the car back.
Note – Since you breached the contract by not paying, they do not have to sell you the car back. If they do not, you will have to buy it back at auction if you want the same car…..and you probably won’t be able to finance that since you would have a repo on your credit history.

A: It costs a lot and is a pain.

Some companies just pay someone else to drive it for you (which doesn’t save any wear and tear and you end up paying for all the gasoline, anyway) and some companies truly ship the car, and it costs even more.

Get a friend to drive with you and make a fun road trip out of it, then pay for a plane ticket for them to return home.

The 72 hours rule that everyone keeps talking about applies to in home sales. It does not apply when you go to a “normal place of business”. It was designed to prevent people from being pressured into signing contracts just to get the salesman to leave their home. When you go to a place of business, you always have the option of walking out. You can not walk out of a sales situation in your own home.

When you take delivery of a vehicle, and drive it off the dealers lot, you own it!! The dealer is not required to take it back, and most likely will not. If he does, you will have to buy another vehicle from him, because he is not going to refund your money.

Q: Moving to Illinois in 5 weeks. Have 2 cars to register. Can we do it from Ca. before we leave?
Have to vehicles that need to be registered. 1 is coming up for renewal at the end of Feb. Would like to register that vehicle in the state of illinois before we leave in 5 weeks so as not to pay the California reg fee. It would be a waste of money. Help

A: Yes, but it would cost more than the registration on the car in CA. You would have to drive to IL, establish residency there, and only then could you register it in IL.

Q: How long can I drive a Illinois registered and insured car in Toronto,Canada?
I’m a USA resident.I own a car that is registered and insured in Illinois.If i drive it to Toronto and l decide to fly back can I leave my car there with a friend [who is going to drive it in Canada}?For how long ?Would it be a problem for me or him{the friend}. Shoud I be paying any fees or taxes.

A: It’ll be a problem as soon as either:
A: The police notice your tags are out of date, or;
B: Your friend gets pulled over and has to produce paperwork, or;
C: There’s an accident and you & the driver both get fined heavily for not having insurance.

We don’t pay taxes on cars up here (do you pay taxes on your car down there?), but the registration/insurance problem isn’t a gamble you ought to take.
