A: there is a cool site called www.uship.com that allows you to list stuff on the site for free and receive bids from truckers to transport it. due to the reverse-auction format most of the time you can find a great price. i entered the details of your shipment into the uship price estimator and it came up with $528. definitely worth looking into…

Q: Where in Chicago downtown area ( Near Presidential Towers ) I can find a place to park my car?
I am moving to these towers for few months only. I am bring my car with me. Where in Chicago I can park my car? I want to know really cheap parking or which is free.
Thanks for help

A: You’re moving into THE BIG CITY. Expect big prices. You are going to find that parking is expensive throughout Chicago. It’s very expensive in the downtown area where you are moving in. There is a garage in your building for the most convenience. There are also parking lots nearby. One is at 525 W Monroe and another is at 603 Monroe. The following website has a map of parking lots in Chicago. Your building is listed:

A common solution for your upcoming problem is to sell or store the car. Hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans are carless with no fees, licenses, insurance and maintenance bills to pay. They travel around using the RTA and cabs.

Q: Do cabs in Chicago require 6 month old infants be in a car seat?
We will be taking the train up to Chicago in June. My grandson who is 6 months old will be a lap passenger on the train. Do we need to bring his car seat for when we take a cab?

A: Why would you risk the safety of your 6-month old? Definitely bring your own car seat.

Another option would be a sedan limo from a local company where you can add up a car seat rental for $5, for example: http://www.stretchlimochicago.com/illinois-specials/Chicago.htm

Q: What’s the best route from Miami to Chicago by car?
Fastest route would be nice too, if anybody can recommend a few nice hotels along the way that would be great or a site that recommends hotels for drivers

A: The almost 1,400 mile trip travels through a variety of terrains…tropical swamp, rolling hills foothills, mountains, wooded areas and plains. I would not drive it in one session by myself. It can be done with 2 or 3 drivers.

Below is a good route:

I would want to drive past Atlanta on the first day. You will probably experience heavy traffic there and it better get that out of the way before heading into mountains. A stayover in Marietta, GA is about midway:

Below are some places to stay that ar close to I-75:

Q: Can I drive my car from Denver to Chicago without stopping?
Hi

I am planning to drive from Denver to chicago in a day or so without turning off engine, except for gas and food
Should I need to cool down engine after driving 5 hours or 6 hours
Bcz I am driving old 94 Accord.
How long can I drive without a stop? If I drive continously will it harm my engine

Thanks for the answers

A: If it was boiling outside, I’d be a little concerned, but just make sure all your fluids are topped up, especially the rad and tranny fluid.
As long as the temperature gauge is working and doesn’t go up past 2/3rd’s, then you should be just fine.

Hey, me and my buddy once drove a ‘74 Mercury Montego that had no temp. gauge, 1 bolt holding the starter on, no overheating reservoir, and a ton of other fun things, from Vancouver to Northern Ontario in 51hours changing drivers every 6 hours while the other guy slept in the back. I guess it had gotten so hot that the muffler cooked a hole through what was left of the floor and toasted the backseat. LOL
We stopped only for whizz breaks and grub and even then ate on the road.

Q: What company offers the best deal for renting a car in Chicago? Can I find any on-line coupons?
I am looking for July 17-23rd.

A: The best place to look for this type of discounts is SearchAllDeals. Just start with a search term like “car rental”.

Q: I will need to park a car in Chicago, any tips?
I will be at Inn of Chicago. 162 E Ohio. Is the lot on St Clair my best bet? I don’t mind walking a block or two or three. It will be mid March so I don’t anticipate terrible weather.

A: To be blunt, anticipate paying $30-$40 a night to park your car near your hotel. There isn’t any 24 hour street parking available in downtown Chicago. You can probably valet your car at the hotel for $40 with “in & out” service (which is good if you plan on using your car and paying to park it again at a museum or restaurant) or if you park it in a lot, expect $30 a night to leave your car there for the duration of your stay.

You could find cheaper parking about a mile away in Greektown, maybe $15 max per night, but certainly not within a block or two or three…more like ten.

Also the meter laws in Chicago…you can feed them only for a max of eight hours, then you have to move your car or it’s going to get towed to Lower Wacker & it will cost you $200 to get your car out.

So budget for $40 a night and you won’t get hit with sticker shock. Parking is expensive in downtown Chicago.

******The person below me has no idea what they’re talking about. Your hotel is in River North for Pete’s sake! That along with the Loop is the safest area in Chicago! I wouldn’t have a problem with my wife walking around alone in that neighborhood any time of day or night.
